The Mead Community Primary School was thrilled to open the doors for its brand new, purpose-built nursery at the start of the month. The teacher-led nursery staff welcomed children for their settling in sessions at the Hilperton site on Tuesday 5th, and opened for the first full day on Wednesday (6th September).

Children from across Trowbridge will be attending the nursery, on both a full- and part-time basis. The Orchard Nursery has been partially funded by The Department of Education and the planned project was to support the expansion of settings able to offer the 30 hours’ entitlement for working parents.

The Nursery setting is closely linked with The Mead School’s existing outstanding Early Years provision and will benefit from shared staff, entitlement and opportunities. “Adults have a deep understanding of how young children learn and plan activities that inspire them to learn extremely quickly and deeply.” (Ofsted, 2014). The Mead is also delighted to be able to offer Nursery provision at its Wingfield site, as part of a mixed Reception/Nursery class called Mice.

The core hours for both nursery settings are 8:45am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4:15pm. There is the option for parents to book wraparound care for their children from 7:45-8:45am and from 4:15-6:00pm.

At the moment, the nurseries are taking children from 3 years old, but at the Hilperton site this may expand to 2 year olds in future, depending on demand.

Helen Tate rejoined The Mead Academy Trust in July as the Early Years Lead, and said: ‘We are hugely excited to have opened our beautiful nursery building this September, having only received the green light on our application in January. The Orchard and our Nursery class at Wingfield are places where children will have the opportunity learn, play and explore both inside and outside, whilst making the most of the excellent school facilities to support their independence and confidence as they grow. I’m so pleased to have this nursery provision available for children in Trowbridge, alongside our existing settings at Castle Mead School and River Mead School in Melksham.’

The Mead is holding open days on 12th October and 2nd November, where prospective parents can visit the Hilperton and Wingfield nursery settings to have a look around, meet the team and ask any questions. If you would like to register for one of these days please call the school on 01225 759273 or email
