Last week the children in Swallows were looking at teen numbers. In reception we have been using numicon to see how big a teen number is and then we have been breaking the teen number apart. We noticed that there was a ten in the teen number and then we added on our ones. We knew how to make a teen number with the numicon if we were shown the number and then we tried different ways of making it.

We even challenged ourselves to make number sentences using the numicon and then checked our answers.

In Year 1, we have been adding and subtracting using different methods when working with larger numbers. These include using number lines, working with remainder numbers and adding or subtracting from either the ones or the tens.
